Five Argo Collective members assembled in New Orleans this last weekend for our annual in-person meeting. Sunday December 17th, they covered the “Big 9” Second Line - a community parade - an annual event that happens every week before Christmas- started in the Bywater neighborhood and marched to the Lower Ninth Ward, a historically African American neighborhood. Originally, the Second Line formed organically behind a band playing music for a funeral or other celebration. As the band, or the “main line” passed by, people joined in and followed the music forming the “second line” Our collective worked together in the planning, photographing and editing of this piece.

Second Line Sunday in New Orleans

Back in December, along with five of my fellow Argo Collective members, we assembled in New Orleans for our annual in-person meeting. On Sunday December 17th we joined the “Big 9” Second Line parade festivities. Second Line parade is happens every week before and is sponsored each week by one of the many Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs. This week the parade was sponsored by the "Big 9" and it started in the Bywater neighborhood and marched to the Lower Ninth Ward, a historically African American neighborhood.

I spent some time photographing the second line parades in New Orleans in 2018. The story can be viewed here:
