I am an Iranian-American editorial and documentary photographer based in Chicago, Illinois-USA. I quit my job as an attorney a few years ago when I decided to return to photography. I wanted to be a photographer since I was ten years old when I walked around with a plastic camera my dad had given me.
As a documentary photographer my attention is drawn to cultural, social and political aspects of our society and I photograph people and stories I find important and to which I can commit. These are aspects by which we define ourselves and understanding them helps us understand each other. I see my camera, as a tool that gives me access to places and allows me to explore the world and issues that would have otherwise remained a mystery. Photography is and has been a perpetual learning experience.I was selected as a participant in the Eddie Adams Workshop XXX and I am currently completing an Advanced Mentored Study Program in Documentary Photography with Jim Estrin (NYT) and Ed Kashi (VII Photo).
